Check Out Our Progress:

Tile Floors and Backsplash

This week we have installed our tile floor and our tile backsplach. Mrs. C wanted to give the backsplash a little character so she picked a handmade 4 ¼" x 4 ¼" Riviera Pearl tile. It's uneven and that's what gives it "the look". A bullnose tile (tile with a finish end) was used around the glass block to give it a finished look.

To keep our kitchen light and bright, Mrs. C wanted a lighter color on her floor and thus, she selected a 12" x 12" honed limestone tile. As our subfloor is concrete, no preparation was need other than to just clean the floor. The tile was thin set to the subflooring and sanded grout used for the joints. One problem which was noted after the grouting was that the grout color was too light, just really didn't match the floor. We will be staining the grout to match more of the colors in the tile and then sealing the grout with a sealer to keep stains and dirt out.

NOTE: On the day we were photographing the floor and the backsplash, the painters had already covered the entire floor, cabinets, and countertops prior to my showing up with the camera. The pictures you are seeing will be changed out middle of next week with better shots of the floor and backsplash.
