Our homeowner,
Mr. and Mrs. C wanted a solid surface countertop for their kitchen. Solid
surface countertops have become very popular in kitchens today because they
have a clean look, long durability, and ease of cleaning. There are a variety
of materials available for solid surface countertops. In our "Kitchen
to Die for" Mrs. C. chose granite. She liked the look and elegance
of this natural stone.
SELECTION
In selecting her granite, Mrs. C went to Stone Channel Inc., which is a distributor
for granite and marble, slabs and tiles. First, she went through the warehouse
at Stone Channel to look through the hundreds of 5' x 10' slabs of granite
for color selection. The granite she chose is called Paradisio Classic and
is imported from India.
FABRICATION
Now that we have our slabs, they will need to be cut to fit our kitchen
cabinets. Our fabricator, Global
Stone Inc., meets us at the kitchen site, measures
our cabinets, center island, and bake center. We are using "under mount"
kitchen sinks which means openings will have to be cut and polished for
our kitchen and vegetable sinks. For the edge detail on the granite (front
edge of the countertops) Mrs. C wanted a straight polished ¾ edge.
Once the tops are cut and polished, they are then installed
on our cabinets. Because we used under mount sinks, holes are drilled into
the granite so that our faucets can be mounted directly to the tops. |
